I disagree with the other reviewers. The book is written in older English, but definitely not so old as to be obtuse. Concerning "The Advancement of Learning", the first book is a well - laid out defense of the attainment of knowledge which was under attack at the time. The second volume focuses more on specific types of knowledge, like logic and rhetoric. His "Letters" is just that, a collection of letters. Many of the world's most important ideas were expounded in letters first which makes this collection an excellent primary source. Excellent!
